Plancha BBQ, What to do and what not to do.

What oil do you use?

What kind of wood do you burn in the plancha?

How do you prevent the baking tray from rusting?

Lots of questions and here you will find the answer!

What oil do you use?

What we strongly advise against is the use of olive oil, this is because it burns between 160 and 200 degrees and a plancha easily heats up to 300 or even 400 degrees.

Use vegetable oil such as peanut oil, if you are severely allergic to nuts you can use coconut oil.

What kind of wood do you burn in the plancha?

The best wood is beech or ash, you can also read this on another site. But actually you can burn anything in it, but what you have to watch out for is hardwood. Hardwood can provide far too much heat, making baking impossible and too high a temperature is also not good for the lifespan of the steel.

Can you use charcoal?

This is certainly possible, but we recommend using wood as the flame creates a cozy atmosphere.

When to put the lid on the BBQ?

Never place the lid on the BBQ while it is still hot, as this will significantly reduce the lifespan of the lid.

Put the lid on when the BBQ has cooled down and especially if it is winter. What we recommend if there is a lot of wind is to put a few clothes pegs or something heavy on the lid so that the lid does not blow away.

How do you prevent the baking tray from rusting?

You probably already think that a bbq with a steel baking tray will rust. That could certainly happen, but to prevent this, make sure that you always scrape your baking tray after baking and put a new layer of oil on it, so that you prevent the plate from rusting. It is also recommended to grease it with a layer of oil once a month in the winter to ensure that no rust can form.

What if my baking tray is rusty?

Don't worry! This is easily solved for light rust stains a little sanding is enough.

If you do have large rust spots, you can use an iron brush or steel wool. And voila, now your baking sheet is as good as new and ready for the next BBQ.
